1st SIC Japan Program from 7th to 17th September 2022

Suzuki Innovation Center Japan program ran from September 7 to September 17 of 2022 and was a big success. This program is intended to give students a thorough understanding of Japanese culture, the operation of the Japanese automotive industry, and the philosophy of Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC). It will be an annual event wholly supported by SMC.

This time, a total of 15 members flew to Japan, including 2 professors, 8 students from the Indian Institute of Technology in Hyderabad, and 7 from the Indian Institute of Management in Kozhikode.

The program's first half was held in Tokyo, where participants learned about SMC,, the India-Japan Laboratory at Keio University's Shonan Fujisawa Campus, and the Japanese startup environment with SMC members.

The second half of the program was held in Shizuoka Prefecture's Hamamatsu, where Suzuki Motor Corporation's headquarters are located. Members had meetings with Mr. Saito, Mr. Ishii, and other members of Suzuki Motor Corporation's top management, attended talks, and went on tours of the company's factories and history museum. On the last day in SMC, the participants discussed ways that Suzuki may develop even further in future collaborations between Japan and India based on their experiences and new knowledge.

The biggest event was a networking gathering on September 9th, which had roughly 70 participants, including senior dignitaries, Suzuki Motor Corporation senior members, IIT and IIM alumni who work in Japan, IITH professors, and participants in the SIC Japan program. Some succeeded in forging closer ties between Japan and India, while others are trying to in the near future, and they all sought out and provided counsel to one another. The party was successful and productive.

Through SIC events and activities, we hope more students have interests in Japanese culture and working or studying in Japan.
